Starting counselling raises practical questions.
This page answers the common ones, so you know what to expect before you get in touch.

You can meet Nelson in person, by appointment, at either of two locations. Online sessions run on Zoom. Many people find Zoom just as helpful, especially with a busy schedule or young children at home. For an online session, choose a quiet, private space where no one can overhear you.

Individual sessions last 60 minutes. Couples sessions last 120 minutes, because two people need time to be heard. Most people meet weekly or fortnightly at first, then less often as things improve. You and Nelson will decide the pace together.
Fees depend on the type of session. Nelson will share them when he replies to your enquiry, so you can decide before you book.
Life happens, and sessions sometimes need to move. Please give at least 24 hours' notice to change or cancel. Sessions cancelled with less notice may be charged in full.
What you share in counselling stays private. Nelson keeps your information secure and follows Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act.
There are a few limits to confidentiality, and you should know them before you start. Nelson must act if someone is at serious risk of harm, if a child or vulnerable adult may be in danger, or if the law requires him to share information. When he can, he will talk with you first.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is mainly about getting to know you. Nelson will ask what brings you, what you hope will change, and a little about your background. You can share as much or as little as feels right.
Do I need a referral?
You don't need a referral. You can make a booking straight away.
Can I switch between Zoom and in-person sessions?
Yes, the sessions are flexible.
What if Nelson isn't the right fit for me?
That's fine, and it happens. The relationship with your counsellor matters. If Nelson isn't the right fit, he can suggest other support.
